The Kingswood Village board is seeking volunteers to fill three (3) openings on the Kingswood Village Property Owners Association (KVPOA) Board of Directors.
How It Works:
The board is comprised of nine (9) members, all of whom must be lot/property owners (listed by name on the property deed documents or identified by name in legal documents such as a trust or LLC linked to the property deed) within Kingswood Village. Only one member of a family or single-unit ownership group is eligible to serve on the board at the same time. Rules and regulations regarding KVPOA Election and Voting are found on the KVPOA website. Eligibility requirements are outlined in California Civil Code (Civil Code § 5105. Election Rules).
Individuals are elected to three-year terms of office and may run for re-election when their term is up. Every year, at the annual meeting in September, three (3) director seats are filled. Once the director positions are filled, the board itself then elects the officers: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. The five (5) other directors serve as at-large directors and participate on or chair KVPOA committees directly related to the effective operation of the KVPOA and facilities at the complex. The board typically meets twelve (12) times per year and a remote meeting format (using Zoom or Teams) is in place to allow for flexible attendance at KVPOA meetings.
The call for nominations is earlier this year than in past elections. KVPOA is using an election option, Election by Acclamation, that is slightly different and is allowed by the Davis-Stirling Act. It works like this: if the number of candidates running for the board is less than or equal to the number of seats up for election, that is, three (3), by the deadline for receiving nominations, then the election process ends. There would be no need for ballots and those candidates would be seated on the board at the September Annual Meeting. If there are four (4) or more candidates, then the election reverts to the normal balloting process used in the past.
How You Can Get Involved:
If you're interested in running for a KVPOA board position, or would like more specific information on being a KVPOA board member, please contact our nominating chairperson, Bob Austin, or any current board member listed on the website. Bob can be reached at: bob@kvpoa.org.
Nomination/Election Timeline:
• April 7, 2025: The self-nomination process officially begins
o Nominations may be submitted using the nomination form via email to board@kvpoa.org or via mail to the KVPOA office.
• July 8, 2025: Nominations must be received by email or mail on this date. Nominations will be reviewed to ensure candidates are eligible to serve on the board if elected.
o NOTE: If the number of qualified candidates is determined to be less than or equal to three (3) by the nomination deadline, then it is officially an Election by Acclamation and the election process ends here. If there are four (4) or more qualified candidates, then election continues with the normal balloting process.
• August 19, 2025: Last date for ballots to be mailed to KVPOA homeowners (if election by acclamation is not applicable).
• September 20, 2025: Final date to vote; Ballot-Counting Meeting to occur during annual homeowner meeting on Saturday, 9/20/25. All ballots received in the KWV Office or USPS post office box by 9 am on this date will be considered valid (if election by acclamation is not applicable).
