Emergency Preparedness & Evacuation

Preparing for an Emergency

  • Identify all ingress and egress routes that take you to a major roadway. Depending on the emergency, some routes may be unusable. Listen carefully to evacuation instructions.

  • Sign up to receive Placer County emergency alerts

  • Consider discussing evacuation with your neighbors in an effort to watch out for each other. The Fire Protection District will gladly meet with you (or preferably a group of neighbors) to make this plan neighborhood specific.

  • While the emergency alert system and other television stations are a potential source of emergency information, the power may be out leaving your vehicle’s radio as your only information option.

  • There is no “magic recipe” for evacuation. By knowing all possible options, you are better prepared when the order is given. Stay Safe: Learn About the Tahoe Wildfire Preparedness Plan and Lake Tahoe Regional Evacuation Plan

Identifying Evacuation Notices

Kingswood Village is located in a high-fire-hazard area, which means we all need to stay vigilant and prepared for potential wildfires, especially from late spring to early fall. Being ready for an emergency starts with knowing how you will be notified if an evacuation is necessary.

Local authorities and the county may use several methods to alert you and your neighbors:

  • Emergency Alerts: This is the most direct way to get notified. Make sure you and your renters are signed up for Placer Alert to receive crucial text and email notifications.

  • Hi-Lo Sirens: Be aware of a special two-tone, European-style siren. Public safety officials use this sound specifically to signal an evacuation. The simple phrase "If you hear the hi-lo, it's time to go!" can help you remember. Public Safety Departments will attempt to drive through communities to warn residents to evacuate using this siren tone.

  • Door-to-Door Notification: In some situations, officials may come directly to your door to issue an evacuation order.

  • Digital Signs: Watch for mobile electronic signs placed by the North Tahoe Fire Department and other agencies, which display evacuation instructions.
