Important: Coyote Sightings in Kingswood Village
To our Residents and Guests,
At Kingswood Village, we are fortunate to live in a beautiful environment where nature is right at our doorstep. However, living so close to nature requires us to be vigilant. The Office has recently observed coyote activity across the property—occurring both at night and during broad daylight.
Respecting the Habitat, Prioritizing Safety
While we recognize that we are sharing the habitat of these local animals, our priority is keeping our families and furry friends safe at all times.
Coyotes are highly adaptable and opportunistic. When they become too comfortable around humans, they can become extremely dangerous. To prevent any unfortunate interactions, we must ensure they are kept clear from our families, our food sources, and our pets.
How to Protect Your Pets & Family
Constant Supervision: Keep pets on a short, non-retractable leash and within eyesight at all times. Do not leave pets unattended on patios or in open areas.
Remove Attractants: Never leave pet food, water bowls, or overflowing trash outside. If a coyote associates our homes with a "free meal," they will continue to return.
Stay Alert: Be aware of your surroundings during walks, especially near wooded edges or during dawn and dusk.
If You Encounter a Coyote: Do Not Run
If you come face-to-face with a coyote, it is important to show them that they are not welcome in human-occupied areas:
Be Large and Loud: Stand your ground, wave your arms, and yell loudly.
Protect Your Pet: Pick up small animals immediately.
Hazing: Use "hazing" techniques (clapping, stomping, or using a whistle) to scare them off.
Back Away Slowly: Maintain eye contact and move toward safety. Never turn your back or run.
By working together and staying alert, we can respect the local wildlife from a safe distance while ensuring Kingswood Village remains a secure environment for all our residents and their beloved pets.
