The national Firewise USA® recognition program provides a collaborative framework to help neighbors in a geographic area get organized, find direction, and take action.

 

*What does it man to be a Firewise Community?

Firewise communities are those that have taken appropriate measures to become more resistant to wildfire structural damage. 

 

*What is the benefits of being a Firewise community? 

Meeting the criteria for becoming a Firewise USA® site helps communities get organized and find direction for their wildfire safety efforts. Like the first rungs on a ladder, the criteria help get a community started toward annual, systematic action to reduce their risks from brush, grass and forest fires. 

 

*Why is KVPOA undertaking this program?

The California legislature passed stringent new wildfire mitigation requirements that KVPOA must meet. Our property has been inspected by the North Tahoe Fire Protection District and a plan is being developed. The Firewise program provides support for many aspects of the plan.
